Questions about poste restante in Strömstad

Answers about parcel pickup, customs, VAT, carriers, storage, returns and collection.

What is parcel pickup and poste restante in Strömstad?

Parcel pickup means we receive your EU parcel at a Swedish address in Strömstad. Poste restante here means the parcel stays safely with us until you collect it, instead of being sent home to Norway for customs clearance.

Do I have to pay customs and VAT?

You pay the VAT in the EU shop’s price. If you bring the goods into Norway, they are free of tax and duty within the value limit (6 000 kr for stays over 24 hours, otherwise 3 000 kr per 24 hours). Above the limit you must declare and pay 25 % Norwegian VAT and any customs duty. Always check the current rules at toll.no.

Which carriers can deliver to you?

PostNord, Bring, DHL, DSV, DB Schenker and other carriers that deliver to a street address in Strömstad. The shop must be able to ship to Sweden.

How long do you store the parcel?

The parcel is stored free of charge for 14 days after we have notified you. If it stays longer, we contact you, and a storage fee may apply. See the terms for what happens after that.

Can you help with returns?

Yes. A return can be sent to your Swedish address, and we tell you when it has arrived. If the item should go back to the shop, you can hand it in with us and we help with the handover. Postage is agreed in advance.

Do you accept larger shipments?

Yes. The price list goes up to 70 kg, and every extra 10 kg costs 100 kr. Contact us before you order something unusually large.

What is PostEkspress Nordic?

A parcel agent in Strömstad that receives parcels for you. You pick them up whenever it suits you. Perfect for Norwegians who shop online from the EU – many online stores do not ship to Norway, or charge expensive fees.

Online shopping from abroad – what does it cost?

When you order goods from abroad, the following applies:

  • VAT: 25 % when the goods arrive in Norway
  • Customs duty: Applies to clothing
  • VAT applies from the first krone (the 350-krone exemption was fully abolished on 1 January 2024)
What happens when the goods arrive in Norway?

The goods must be cleared through customs before you can use them. The carrier (e.g. Posten) usually does this for you – calculates the charges, pays Norwegian Customs and takes an extra fee.

How is the VAT calculated?

The VAT is calculated from price + shipping + insurance. The problem: when you buy from abroad, the price usually includes VAT in the country of origin. You do not get this VAT back. In other words, you pay VAT twice – once in the country of origin and once in Norway. In addition there is a customs clearance fee.

Value limits – how much can you bring tax free?
  • Stays longer than 24 hours: Goods worth up to 6 000 kroner free of tax and duty
  • Shorter stays: Goods worth 3 000 kroner free of tax and duty, once per 24 hours

The limit applies to everything you have shopped in total.
